New Orleans Apologizes For 1891 Lynchings -- Rose Tharp

New Orleans is apologizing for the lynching of 11 italian americans under false pretenses. They go on to explain that it’s more for education than anything else. Not many people are away of this crime which happened in 1891.

This is like the Vietnam War (on a smaller scale) because no one educated people about the reality of went on in New Orleans, though it was the largest lynching in US history. We didn’t know what actually happened in Vietnam until the Pentagon Papers were leaked in 1971.

  1. It is important for a place to acknowledge the ugly history that may have been walked over in the past and ignored, and take those steps to address the issue it references. The USA could take away from that and address the victims of the Vietnam war in Cambodia, where our troops were not supposed to be.
