Lily Philips- More to Add to the College Admissions Scandal

Currently, two more parents are guilty of being apart of the college admissions scandal with top name colleges. One being Davina Jackson and her husband who possibly paid Mr. Singer $600,000 to ensure their daughters' acceptance into UCLA and USC. They also paid him to hire someone to correct their kids' ACT test. One of her daughters at UCLA got in for their soccer program and actually played on the team as a midfielder for her first year, unlike many other students whose parent did similar things. Both the wife and the husband of this couple committed fraud to guarantee their daughters' education at these universities.

This article was published in The New York Times, and it was written by Jill Cowen who focuses on news in her state of California. The audience of this article is really anyone, primarily high school students and their parent to make them aware of recent event with top universities. This is a pretty straightforward article to read; however, it does require one background knowledge on the subject of this scandal to truly understand the entire situation and the number of people this affected. This article is important, especially for high school students like us, because college is coming up and it is sad to know that these high ranking schools are involved in a scandal of this magnitude. This event can be connected to colleges such as Stanford kicking out students due to this issue and working the system and bribing the right people to get into their program.
