Lily Philips- Government Reuniting Families From the Border

The Government stated it can take about two years to identify the separated children of the immigrant families along the border. As of early 2018, families trying to illegally cross the border were prosecuted while their children were put into foster care as apart of the zero tolerance policy formed during the Trump Administration. In order to identify the thousands of children currently in shelters and match them to the families they belong to, it will take officials anywhere between one to two years. They must manually review every case of the 50,000 children in the system. Some people disagree with this estimate and think that it shouldn't take that much time if the government truly cared about reunifying the families, stating it should take months, rather than years.

This article was published in The New York Times, and it was written by Julia Jacobs of the newspaper company. The audience of this article is the people of our country, the U.S. to inform them of the recent updates of the latest immigration policy. The author of this article was very well educated on the matter and used no bias, strictly facts. She used pictures to to further illustrate the story and give the author "photo anecdotes" of the reunification. This topic is very important for everyone to be aware of because this is a pressing issue during this presidency term and is an on-going problem. This action can be connected to the Immigration Act of 1924 where the number and race of immigrants were limited entrance into the country.
