Florida 6th grade students charged after refusing to recite pledge of Allegiance - Karsyn Kelly

A Florida student faces a series of consequences due to his own rights to not publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The sixth grader was described to have outrageous and “disruptive” behavior to his demand. However the teacher, which happened to be a substitute that day, did urge and induce the student to have a “disruptive” behavior by questioning his beliefs and telling the student to “leave the country”.

Reading this article and seeing all the punishments the sixth-grade student had to face seemed absolutely ridiculous. Considering it is 2019 and we stand in a world of diversity and different beliefs, it is unfair to not only punish a student for not reciting the pledge, but intentionally causing a scene with the young boy. Respecting students rights are important in a learning environment. To my understanding every student should have a voice in the classroom and it can stay at peace as well, but with biased adults and leaders learning environments will no longer be healthy.
