Courtney McColley- 3 black churches burn down in Louisiana

On Sunday, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church was burned down in Opelousas, Louisiana. This is the third African-American church to be burned down in the last 10 days. All 3 churches were well over 100 years old as well. Louisiana State Fire Marshal Butch Browning stated that the only thing they can say about the fires right now is that they are suspicious. They believe that the fires were a crime and definently related, not just a coincidence.
During the civi rights era, the burning of black churches was used as an intimidation tactic- to both individuals as well as whole communities. Knowing the related history is important to finding out why someone would do such a horrible thing. I think that it is so sad that these kind of things are still happening well into the 21st century. It's like a repetition of America's horrible past.
