The article i chose is about the government shutdown. Jeff Estes, who worked as a federal contractor for 35 years, he and his colleauges are out of work because of a partial government shutdown that happened. It was the longest in history. For Estes, the shutdown is causing a big affect in his life, because he is paying for two kids to attend college. And this shutdown has caused him and many other workers to reapply for their jobs. With the government at a stand still, Estes and his coworkers are unsure as to if they will have a job when its over. The people who are in the position to know are on a leave of absense which leaves Estes and his friends frustrated as the government shutdown enters its 22nd day today.
It's despairing to here that people are losing their jobs and have to reapply not knowing if they can get their jobs back or are going to be unemployed. Adding to that people that are aware areo n paid leave. This is very similar to a government shutdown that happened in 1790 prior to the Revolutionary War. The U.S defaulted when the federal government restructured bonds issued to fund the war.
It is always a great loss for one to lose their job. We have come so far. A another connection is the industrial revolution. People moved to cities to find a job just to earn little each week. -Tiya Caldwell
