The Frisco third grader Prince Nallamothula was offered a full ride scholarship to UNT by UNT President Neal Smatresk. Prince has won multiple awards for his inventions including his award in the Young Inventor Challenge for his Happy Family app and award in the international Paradigm Challenge for his Sneeze Pod, which helps to prevent the spreading of germs. Prince was awarded the scholarship while he was being recognized by the city of Frisco for his achievements (as January 15th is now Prince Nallamothula day). He also has a YouTube channel where he talks about quantum physics.
First of all... wow. This is one of those amazing feel-good stories and it's pretty cool how close it was to us, or at least to me (I live right next door to Frisco). I wonder how kids get into inventing practical things, or how they get into them on an international competitive scale. Achievements like this could have only been accomplished by education. Every advancement, as well as the availability, of education in America has led to this moment, from the creation of tax-funded public schools in the 1820s and beyond, to the popularization of higher education, to the allowance of everyone to go to University. Also, we've been talking a lot about immigration in class lately, and although it doesn't exactly correlate, Prince is South Asian in heritage. On the other hand, the right for Asian immigrants to come to America resulted from American immigration policies. If you could look far enough into Prince's history you would find at least one direct result of old or new immigration policies in his story.

It's so heartwarming to see the education system done right for once. I am worried, however, that if Prince attends college at such a young age he will feel unfairly pressured and stressed, so hopefully he does what is best for himself.
ReplyDeleteWow! This kid is destined for some pretty incredible things! This IS such a feel-good story, with a good happy ending-- the scholarship. I agree with Daniella, hopefully the 3rd grader doesn't overwhelm himself by doing too much too soon
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great achievement and something you definitely don’t hear every day. I would love to check out what he is up to now and what kind of incredible inventions have been thought up by this young genius to have been granted such a high recognition and scholarship by UNT.
ReplyDeleteThat’s crazy, at third grade I was so dumb haha. I think it’s great that things like this are happening, it is just goes to show how advance our education systems are getting. As much as I dislike school, it’s really changed everyone of us to be a better version of ourself a. - Joziah German
