Summary: During last January, 17-year old John Albers was shot by police while he was pulling out of his driveway. One of his friends reported that he was suicidal and two officers had arrived within two minutes. None of the officers tried to contact to Albers or go to the front door. They waited on the front door while more officers came and the garage opened and Albers started pulling out of his driveway. Officer Jenison approached from the right of the garage and started shouting for Albers to stop and began firing. Later on he said "I thought he was gonna run me over," but on a webcam from another vehicle, it shows that he was on the right side of the car, not behind. The car spinned in a 180-degree turn then stopped. John was killed instantly and Jenison resigned after the shooting. The police have refused to disclose any information to Albers's parents. His mother said, “Almost a year has passed, and we have no answers. Basically, they have successfully concealed each and every piece of relevant information related to our son’s death.”
Analysis: A lot of terrible things happen for no reason. This is one of those things. I don't think any shots should have been fired. The officer wasn't behind the car while John was pulling out, he could've just explain the situation to him and why are they waiting for him on the lawn? Ring the doorbell. The parents also have a right to know what exactly happened.

It's really sad that it's been almost a year and they still have no answers, that makes no sense. I agree that they have the right to know exactly what happened.
ReplyDeletethis was very well written and it is so sad that it has been a year and they still have no answers. i believe they should know what happened.
ReplyDeleteIt's pitiful to know that a 17 year old boy got his life taken from him before he truly got to live, suicidal or not , a young man is dead over what a trained policeman "thought" and still no information has been disclosed. -Jendayi Harris
