Bangladeshi Workers Protest Over Pay

A large protest occurred in Bangladesh today over a failed promise delivery by the Bangladeshi government over shirked pay raise. Bangladesh, whose garment industry is responsible for over 80% of the nation's exports, had formerly made a promise to the workers of its garment factories to issue a pay hike, however the raise was sufficiently lower than was originally stated. The protesters, who came from 10 separate factories on the outskirts of the country's capital Dhaka, attempted to block the highway going into the city, but were dispersed. This protest followed several last week and spurred the initial pay raise.
This article was written by Reuters, who provide bias free journalism with just the facts from all corners of the world. I believe this to be an important fight for the workers to insure that they are not getting shorthanded by the government and are truly getting what is owed and has been promised to them. It is important to demonstrate when you believe you are being treated unjustly, or else the silence may convince those in power to subjugate the lower classes because they simply didn't wish to put up a fuss.
I believe this development has a resemblance to the unity against their mistreatment found in the unions of the United States' industrial workers in the Gilded Age. This unity culminated, sadly, in the deadly riot in the haymarket square, resulting in several deaths, similar to the protests in the previous week in Bangladesh over inadequate pay and the injuries and deaths seen in those protests. I just hope those tumultuous protests don't discredit the workers seeing to what is owed them.
