One Year since the Las Vegas Shooting- Emma Hancock
After the Las Vegas Shooting, the Nation Moved On, Many Survivors Did Not
This article explains and gives examples of the trauma that was left behind after the Las Vegas shooting in 2016, which was about a year ago. 59 lives were lost in this mass shooting, and a mind-boggling 851 persons were injured. This shooting has left imprints of violence in the survivors’ minds, PTSD od gunshots is recognized by family and friends of the victims. Simple things like strong footsteps can trigger memories of the traumatic experience. Many survivors have been left with scars of the shooting that will stay with them the rest of their life. Although they are lucky to be alive, it can make life miserable with these injuries. The survivors don’t feel like themselves anymore, because of someone else’s problems and mistakes made by them. This article is also reminding the nation that we cannot just forget about these terrors because time has passed, we need to remember those who lost their lives and survivors who are suffering from it, and not let history repeat itself. It is terrible that these innocent survivors face the consequences that they never deserved. I’ve always wondered why mass shooters aim towards people that have done nothing to them or are in no way related to the issues they might have with the world. It must be difficult to live everyday knowing that you’re suffering a pain that you did not cause or earn. I hope that this article is reminding our nation of these traumatic experiences. I hope that history does also not repeat itself again, but unfortunately in the past things like this have happened before. The Sandy Hook Elementary shooting also took place in a place that was supposed to be full of child innocence and a safe space. 28 people passed in this shooting, and the deaths in mass shootings since then have only grown more, when you would think there would be a decrease. Innocent people are being killed more and more, when will the nation put a change into effect?
I agree history keeps repeating itself and we need to realize this and start to change things.
ReplyDeleteThis is so important. These events keep happening, and we care about it for maybe a month or two, and then forget about it until the yearly "anniversary" of them. I can't shake how this will affect future generations.
ReplyDeleteI agree your statement that the victims shouldn't have to go through this situation and see consequences terrible people for no reason. Overall, a well written and interesting post.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that we can't keep letting history repeat itself and let innocent people continue to suffer through these traumatic events. I cant even imagine what it must be like for survivors to live with this kind of trauma
ReplyDeleteOver the course of the past year or so, there have still been MANY school shootings. Although some weren't as severe, or didn't result in as many injured, they still occurred. You would think people would learn from their mistakes, that they would not allow history repeat itself on a constant loop. It is horrible what the victims of school shootings are put through, and the aftermath of what they have to deal with.
