Summary:
At sixteen, Marine Jorge Torrez fatally stabbed eight year old Krystal Tobias and her nine-year-old friend Laura Hobbs. Laura's father was mistakenly charged with the murder. Torrez graduated from high school right after and joined the marines so nobody suspected it was him. He was stationed at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, in 2010 and attacked two women, and raped one of them and left her for dead. In July 2010, the DNA found in the girl's case was traced to him and to strangling Navy officer Amanda Jean in 2009. He admitted to killing the girls for a plea deal and was sentenced to 100 years in prison, after already receiving the death sentence and five life sentences. He is now waiting in a federal prison to await his execution.
Analysis:
This article was written by Tom Jackman on September 19. I think this article was important because a good number of people are charged with murder when they were in fact innocent. It also shows to be cautious around people.

God, some people are just sick. What was even his motive!? DNA evidence has really helped revolutionize how we catch criminals. Thank God that Marine was actually caught, and Mr. Hobbs isn’t wrongfully accused anymore. - Sophie Knox
