deadly strawberries in new zealand - will goodell
https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/23/world/strawberries-new-zealand-australia/index.html
Major supermarket companies are having to withdraw many strawberry brands across new zealand and australia, after customers have found sewing needles inside the strawberry containers in west aukland. the chain has been withdrawn from many supermarkets due to precautionary measures, and are also advising customers to cut up their strawberries before consuming them. the chain has announced that no illness or injury has resulted from the strawberries, although around 100 have been found in new zealand alone, but has caused widespread panic throughout new zealand and australia. the australian government has issued a federal investigation and is awaiting results. this article could relate to the boston tea party and the intolerable acts that followed, where colonists boycotted the british tea and refused to buy it as a sign of protest. somebody could have planted the needles as a sign of protest, or simply as a malicious act.

I think it’s crazy that people would put needles into strawberries. Imagine biting into one and getting stabbed... I hope they end up figuring out who is doing this. Loved your synthesis though:) - Joziah German
ReplyDeleteThis is really crazy- how the heck do you accidentally sell strawberries with needles in them! I remember last Halloween there were reports of razor blades in some of the candy. I was reading up on this story and apparently, to help fix this disaster, they are putting the strawberries through metal detectors before distributing them out to stores. - Sophie Knox
ReplyDeleteThat’s crazy that needles would get into the strawberries before they distributed them to the public.

I’m glad you wrote about something outside of the US because I wouldn’t have known this any other way. It’s also so scary and weird that people are finding needles in strawberies. I also like how you were able to relate this back to us history.
ReplyDeletei liked the fact that you chose to write about this, its very interesting. Even though this is recent, people have been doing this with other foods as well. I think its very messed up that people would actually do things like this. I liked your analysis and i think it was very well thought out, good job.
ReplyDeleteChloe Meinershagen - I've seen this topic before, and it's so shocking to me. It makes me afraid of how this is happened, and how little must food can be checked if this could happen.
