California passes more Gun Laws

Kristen Ramirez

After many shootings there has been a large amount of voices calling out for stricter Laws against Gun Control and a lot of those efforts have failed but, not in California. Recently, Gov. Jerry Brown has signed many gun control bills in a state that is already known for having the strongest gun laws in the nation. A California Lawmaker even states "He had the Parkland massacre and other recent school shootings in mind when he introduced the legislation" he also mentions being determined and thoughts no parent should have to worry about.  Laws consist of banning anyone convicted of certain domestic violence misdemaenors from owning a fire arm for life, prevent people who have been hospitalized more than once in one year for mental health issues from owning a gun for life, require people applying for concealed gun permits to get at least 8 hours of gun safety training, allow police to ask for a gun violence restraining order verbally when there's not time to make a written request, require all California Law Enforcement agencies to input information on lost or stolen guns into a state database within a week of the agency finding out the firearm was missing. These laws will go into effect starting January 1, 2019. In addition the National Riffle Association voiced about raising the minimum age for the purchase of a riffle or shotgun.

This was reported October 1, 2018, by Doug Criss. In my opinion, I think its great that these laws are being added. It may suck that this is only applied to California and not other states but, its good to see that peoples voices are being heard and that a difference is trying to be made. With all the incidents that have happened I think this exactly what we need to allow the percentage of it happening and I hope other states can soon be able to enforce them as well.
