As the immigration debate continues to rage within our country in its legal and illegal variations, a tragic update has rekindled that discussion making it more impassioned than ever. Recently, a girl named Mollie Tibbetts was murdered by an illegal immigrant. He was apprehended almost immediately after and will stand trial soon. Understandably, this story has thrown fuel on an already raging fire. Donald Trump has woven a tale of dangerous immigrants vital to his campaign and time in office. While according to the statistics immigrate are far less likely to commit crimes than their citizen counterparts, there is always an exception. And this exception has been quite useful to Trump, lending credibility to his otherwise unsubstantiated claim. However, the father of the deceased girl has been fighting against this, trying to ensure his daughter's death does not just become a prop for politicians, endorsing things she didn't believe in.
Honestly, this story provided a lot of catharsis for me. A tragic waste of human life shouldn't be used to prop up an agenda and I'm glad her father is speaking up for her now that she has no voice of her own especially since according to her father and the article, she opposed Trump's "racist" policies.
I think what happened here was awful and a real tragedy. I dont think, like you kinda said, we sould base our opinion off of one person and one event as Trump is doing to fuel his campaign aginst immigrants. Its wrong and places false information and assumptions on good people.
