Ryan Mecca | Political Year of the Woman? Been There, Done That, Oregon Says

Around 40% of representatives in Oregon's legislature are women, which is unique to states in the U.S., who are led by a significant majority of men. It is important that women have a place in leading roles so that they can represent their beliefs, as mentioned several times throughout the article as an Oregon woman--Ms. Brown--and many others fight on the side of pro-choice.
In 2018, there have been many movements towards equality for women, and this article challenges that so-called "political year of women", saying that Oregon is already many steps ahead, and has been for years. While, yes, we've really pushed women's rights this year as a country, we could've done it much sooner. Women were very misrepresented in the past; we often don't hear the stories of those like Pocahontas, especially considering most of the nation (and the world) was run by men like John Smith, pushing these important voices aside.
This article, I believe, is directed towards all peoples of our nation, to inform them of Oregon's successful women-run government, and to leave us thinking of how we can integrate this into own. While written by a man, Kirk Johnson, the voices of women are added to this article through quotes and retrospection of interviews, leaving me to believe that he does greatly value their opinions on this topic.
