Last Wednesday, August 29, 2018, Paul Taylor, an American choreographer, passed away due to renal failure at age 88. A couple months earlier in May, he announced the next artistic director for the Paul Taylor Foundation as one of his dancers in the company, Michael Novak.
He is now responsible for two dance companies, an organization, a school, and an archive. The number of dances that Paul Taylor created would be in possession of the Paul Taylor Foundation. Mr. Taylor was one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century and was known for his musicality, use of everyday movements, and accessibility.
This article was produced by The New York Times, and it was written by Colin Moyniham. Paul Taylor's dance company was based in New York City much like NY Times Headquaters. The news company also included pictures of Taylor and Novak in their article taken by some of their own photographers. This loss will be remembered by the dance community and his memory and teachings will not be forgotten. His company is to function just as normal with a few changes such as the added employment contracts for his dancers. This article was written to inform the audience, the dance community or dance enthusiasts, of an influential person in dance history passing away; however, his life work with his companies and foundations will continue to move forward. We can reflect on Paul Taylor's impact on modern dance today and how we can use his techniques for dance in the future.
