Haley Bogdon - Tropical Storm Gordon Threatens the Gulf Coast

The National Hurricane Center reported that tropical storm Gordon is expected to make landfall on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.  Weather reporters think that this storm could turn into a hurricane by the time it reaches Louisiana and Mississippi.  It was recommended that people evacuate Louisiana if they lived outside of the levee protection system.  Also, 200 National Guard troops will be sent to Southeastern Louisiana to assist with the aftermath of the storm.  Maximum winds so far have been measured to be 60 mph and the storm could produce a "life-threatening" storm surge to the Gulf states.  Gordon is expected to be finished on Saturday, September 8, 2018 and is the seventh named storm of the year.

This article warns those who live in the Gulf Coast states to prepare for a dangerous tropical storm named Gordon.  In the past, I am aware of many damaging storms in Louisiana, including Hurricane Katrina.  I know that these storms can do a lot of damage and can cause people to lose everything they own.  Some of the storms in the past have made national news and are important events in U.S. history because they strongly affected the people who lived through them.  Also, people from all over the country helped out and participated in the clean up after these storms.  This article is important to the people living in the areas where Gordon is headed because it gives them the warnings to leave the area and board up their homes.  The author is writing this as a warning and uses good information from meteorologists to inform the readers of where the storm is and where it is expected to go.

  1. With hurricane season upon us, tropical storm Gordon reminds us that the American coastline can be a dangerous place. Despite the best efforts of our meteorologists, the destruction can have long lasting effects. Katrina and Harvey are still lingering reminders. - Anna Speer
