Kennedy Hannible - Texas Doctor says Female Physicians "Don't Work as Hard".

A Texas doctor named Gary Tigges previously commented in the Dallas Medical Journal's September issue that women physicians do not work as hard and do not see as many patients as male physicians. His comments went on giving unsupported assertions that the reason women doctors don't get paid as much is that their priorities are focused on family and social experiences. This lead to many women on social media creating backlash for his comments. Many women also wondered why the Dallas Medical Journal published his article in the first place.

Dr. Gary Tigges apologized, but a lot of people still have questions. Most of his assertions were based on the pay gap between women and men. Recent studies have shown that on average women do make 27.7% less money than men on an average $105,000 yearly income. He also goes on to say that "Nothing needs to be done about this unless female physicians actually want to work harder and put in the hours".  Many female physicians do live a double life with work and home, but that does not give a reason to pay them less if they are indeed putting in the hours needed for the job. This article is important because it shows how little women are seen by men, and it shows how certain opinions based on the thoughts of men change how women are paid and treated in the workplace. Also, people wonder why did the Dallas Medical Journals post the article knowing of its content. The interesting part is that it was published in the Women in Medicine issue of the journal. The Dallas Medical Journal says they published it because it is a common point of view by many physicians.  Tigges has now deleted his twitter page and the website to his private practice that he started in 1996 because of the crude comments he has received. I feel like the page gap is the main problem here many people especially men don't understand what a woman goes through being a mom and having full-time jobs.

  1. I find what Dr. Gary Tigges said to be absolutely disgusting and sad. in this day in age I find it astonishing that there are still people that think women aren't equal to men. if a woman does the same job as a man then she deserves the same salary.

  2. Chloe Meinershagen - What a ridiculous man, I can't even put into words how offended I am. As a physician, I would expect him to be more educated on life than he is. I can't even believe the pay gap is real because of the stupidity of it. This comment is practically me just screaming internally, I apologize, but I am angered.
