Haley Bogdon - Florence has Proven to be a Deadly Storm

Florence has taken the lives of 31 people so far, with most of these being in North Carolina.  Rescuers continue to send water and try to rescue people who are stranded.  Even though the rain has stopped, the high waters will not be going away for many days.  President Trump claimed that he will do whatever he can to keep the people safe.  He also said that 20,000 military personnel were deployed to help out the area.  The storm had the fourth-highest rainfall of any hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since 1950 with almost 36 inches in North Carolina.

The article was written to inform people of the damage that the storm has inflicted and let people know where the damages occurred.  I also believe that it was written so that people will think about  how they can help and be aware of how people were impacted. Throughout U.S. history there have been many storms that have inflicted significant damages to people's homes and communities.  This is yet another example of what a storm is capable of and why people should listen to any warnings that are given before the storm arrives.

  2. It is so hard for me to imagine what they are going through right now and I hope that everyone who needs help, gets it. I understand what you mean when you say that people should listen to the warnings that are given before the storm arrives but I have done some research and found that some people don't evacuate in catastrophic events like this because of chronic illnesses(disabilities), the fear of leaving their pets behind, fear of a damaged home, or financial burdens. These are just a few reasons of why people may not evacuate and knowing this made me feel even worse for the people who lost their lives and people who lost loved ones.

  4. I agree this is a horrible event in our history. All of America needs to come together to help and rebuild the Carolinas. These people were hit by a deadly hurricane and have been left homeless with nothing left. We need to do everything we can to aid the people of the Carolinas. Lily Philips
