Teenage snowboarder Red Gerard wins first Team USA gold metal
Red Gerard competed recently at the winter olympics in the men's Slopestyle event. He is a 17 year old boy from Ohio that moved with his six other siblings to Colorado. They would build their own course in the backyard and he ultimately taught himself how to do all these crazy tricks. After not doing so hot on his first 2 runs he was in 11th place, however after the hitting the 3rd run almost perfect he landed first place. The youngest American man to win a gold metal in many years. Truly amazing.
I watched this happen live on the TV, and it was truly the coolest thing. He was completely surprised and not expecting that at all. I believe thats what makes things so special. His whole family was out there supporting him because it was such a big deal just to get this far. I can't imagine how he was feeling, something that seems to be a far away dream coming true so soon.
I couldn't imagine teaching myself a bunch of crazy tricks. He must love what he is doing.
ReplyDeleteRed Gerard is incredible. I saw video footage of his tricks and he looked like he was having lots of fun.

ReplyDeleteThe stuff these people can do is incredible! I feel like sometimes the winter olympics don't have as much momentum/enthusiasm as the summer games, but they should because these tricks are amazing.
