2/4/18 Ashton Benn

It is now a crime to call Auschwitz a polish death camp. The law that Polish president signed in combats the idea that the Poles complied with the Nazi regime and wishes. If violated, punishment can be up to three years in prison. Even though the president has OKd it, the bill still needs to go through numerous offices before it is officially enacted. Some people, Rex Tillerson, criticizes it because it technically restricts freedom of speech, however he agrees that calling Auschwitz this is historically inaccurate and misleading. Israel is greatly angered by the bill because they are accusing Poland of trying to re write history, and since Poland and Israel share the job of preserving Holocaust history, it is an extremely sensitive topic between the countries.

All in all, I think that Poland is trying to save their dignity instead of being devoted to keeping the facts as they happened. Obviously many Polish people did not contribute to the camp, but that does not mean that there was zero collaboration at all.  This event is directly lated to World War II because it was a result of the Great War, or world war I.
