Seanelle Higgins: Dead Bat in Salad

Summary: Recently this week, two people were eating a salad from Wal-Mart and discovered a Mexican free-tailed bat inside. The bat was sent to a center for disease contol to be checked out and tested for rabies. Although transmission of rabies through eating the rat is heavily uncommon, both vitims were still tested for rabies and closely monitored. Apparently, the company, Fresh Express, was unaware that the bat was inside of the salad,  they have been reported to the FDA for testing and thorough investigation.

Analysis: I think that this is such a crazy, wild story. I am very, very picky about what I eat, and  if I found a bat inside of my food, I don't know what I would have done. I am glad that the victims are being closely monitored, but I also believe they are entitled to substantial compensation for their troubles. I hope they sue the company in a very public manner and the FDA investigates them completely for the slightest errors. Hopefully that way, they will be a lot more careful of what they put in their food and this can be prevented from ever happening again.

  1. Wow! This is really surprising and I don't know what I would do if I found a bat in my salad. I hope Wal-Mart has learned from this wild mistake, and will take precautions to avoid this from ever happening again.
