Lauren Brady P4 4/2/17 US Response to North Korean Threat

President Trump has stated that the US is prepared to handle the North Korean nuclear threat. Even if China refuses to help, the US will continue to block North Korean nuclear activity, including the many tests of ICMs. Trump is set to have meetings with Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, later this week. Those meetings will reveal whether China will cooperate with US efforts to stop North Korean attempts to build a nuclear arsenal, or if the US will have to work alone.

I am glad that the government is finally taking the North Korean threat as seriously as it deserves to be treated. Nuclear missiles are highly destructive, and thus, any hostile nation creating them needs to be reprimanded, even if it takes force, which the US's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has expressed to the concerned South Korean government. The nuclear tests that North Korea has been conducting have grown bolder each test. Before long, they will have the capability of ICMs (long distance rockets with nuclear heads). It is time that we put a stop to this. The North Korean nuclear situation connects to the Cold War. Russia was developing ICMs and putting them in Cuba, which led to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

  1. I agree with you in the fact that it is also somewhat relieving, despite the person in power, that we are making advances to be aware of the coming threat.
