Kennedy Waterman - Pepsi Pulls Ad Accused of Trivializing Black Lives Matter

Pepsi recently released a new advertisement that used imagery from many protests and movements, like the Black Lives Matter movement. It immediately became controversial, as activists said it made light of the real struggles and is very much the opposite of what real protesters experience. Pepsi pulled the ad and released a statement saying "Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace, and understanding. Clearly, we missed the mark and apologize."

The article came out April 5th, the day after the ad was released, so it is very recent. The author offers no bias or thoughts on the subject and just states the facts. Before reading it, I had vaguely heard of the issue from social media. I think it was written for the general public to understand why some people are protesting Pepsi. Issues like these are important because they show how passionate people are in their beliefs and how they don't want to be taken lightly. Although Pepsi wasn't trying to offend people, I'm glad they responded to the public reaction and removed the ad. This can be related to President Bill Clinton's impeachment. With the Pepsi ad, the public responded negatively, and so it was removed. With Clinton, the public responded negatively, so he was removed.

  2. This is very interesting that we are all bothered by this ad! We need to make sure that some things are not as controversial as they seem.
