Jeb Bush’s welfare reform plan would only make life worse for America’s poor
Summary: Jeb Bush unveiled his economic welfare plan last Friday. His plan includes cutting current welfare programs (like Medicaid and food stamps). While many Republicans have a distrust for Medicaid, very few have proposed to cut and replace all current welfare programs. Bush plans to replace this programs with federal grants that states can apply for.
Analysis: Not that he has a chance, but this plan is ridiculous. It would have the federal government supporting states with money, but not with logistics, essentially leaving the states on their own. Additionally, food stamps is a very successful program, and cutting it would be ill-advised. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke." Yeah, or, maybe, don't replace something working with something with no proof that it could work? Bye Jeb, pull out already.
Making the rich richer and the poor poorer- sounds like the Gilded Age....
