Chipotle closings all stores for food safety meeting
by Adrianna Martinez
On February 8 Chipotle restaurants are closing nationwide to hold food safety meetings. The purpose of the meetings are to thank employees, answer questions and discuss changes that will occur. Chipotle has had several cases of E.Coli, Salmonella and norovirus which has caused harm to many customers. In August 64 customers in Minnesota were infected with Salmonella and 100 people in California were infected with norovirus . In October, November and December more outbreaks of E.Coli, Salmonella and norovirus occurred in multiple states. Customers have sued Chipotle, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Office of Criminal Investigations became involved and opened up an investigation and the company has projected a drop in sales. It's good the company is taking responsibility and holding a meeting for food safety. The company has stated there has not been an E.Coli case in two months and they are serving food to a million of customers a day without incident. This is similar to the recall of a generic children's cough syrup due to the dosage cups in the box having incorrect markings. The manufacturer stated the cough syrup was recalled due to overdose risk.
