WTC open for business -Josh Rudes Pd. 4

More than 13 years after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 1 World Trade Center, has risen from the rubble of the previous occupant of that block. Built on the steps of the old north building, the new 1,776 skyscraper is adorned with marble from the same quarry as the previous WTC. Conde Nast, a magazine publishing business, has set up business in the new building, and their first workday was Monday. Employees walked in, being reminded of that fateful day, and realizing that they could never escape the history of these grounds.

While people are joyous for the new building, people are also fearful, for good reason. But the city has made extreme reinforcements, making it basically the safest building in all of New York. There were also no major celebrations, just the beginning of a normal workday for the people employed there. Construction started in 2006, and the proportions of the building are enormous, It includes the amount of glass to cover 20 football fields, as much steel as 20,00 cars, and enough concrete to make a 4 inch thick sidewalk from NYC to Chicago.

  2. They building of the new tower was controversial at first. Some people saw it as a come back from the attack on our nation while others saw it as merely a replacement for what had happened and dirtied the images of those lost. I believe it to be a lovely reminder of how our nation can come together to support one another.
