Terminally Ill Women Chooses to End Life By: Nina Bharadwaj, 2nd Period

Brittay Maynard, 29, was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor called glioblastoma multiforme which gave her a life expectancy of about fourteen months. She had lived in Oregon, where the "Death With Dignity Act" takes place enabling people to die peacefully using a drug. Maynard's story went viral after she had posted a video of herself online. She stated "If all my dreams came true, I would somehow survive this, but I likely won't." Maynard died peacefully on her bed surrounded by her loved ones. Before dying, Maynard went to the Grand Canyon. Maynard's disease gradually worsened causing worsening pain everyday. Therefore, she choose to end her life using this drug. Her family has not spoken about the issue.

This article was published on November 3, 2014, and it really speaks to me because my uncle died of leukemia 2 summers ago. So many people die of cancer daily, and it is very revolutionary that Oregon is allowing people the right to peacefully end their life with the use of this drug.  I think this  is a good idea because it allows the patient to end their suffering. All people have the right to life, and I believe all people should have the right to end their life with dignity.
