Death With Dignity Activist Dies - Veronica Carleton 5th Period

http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/02/health/oregon-brittany-maynard/index.html

This article by Catherine E. Shoichet mourns the loss of Brittany Maynard, a young woman whose passing caused a lot of controversy. After finding out she has terminal cancer she opted not to suffer needlessly with various experimental treatment but to move to Oregon to take advantage of their death with dignity laws that allow her to take a fatal dose of medication and take her own life when she pleases. These laws are only present in five states and cause people to become very uncomfortable, it not a very pleasant idea. However, a person has a right to their body and to make informed decisions regarding their healthcare and since it saved her pain suffering in her final days I think it the right decision to choose. Similar to the issue with abortion people are making moral judgments on people's personal health care.

  1. Yeah, in the constitution people have a right to life. which means they have a right to live or not. Like it or not it is her decision ultimately and the only one who can change it is her. I dont like the idea that she decided to die but then again i am not in her situation.
