Leslie Kelly: Gay Marine's Amazing Journey From Homeless Shelter to Ivy League

Elegance Bratton is a Marine vet whose story began in New Jersey, when he left his home at the age of sixteen. Due to his family's homophobia, Bratton decided to find a fresh start in New York, and while he did find a safe environment in which he could be himself, he couldn't find a safe one to do much anything else and found himself homeless for most of his teenage years. Although he was welcome in his family's house, he didn't feel comfortable there and didn't spend much time there as a result. In order to prevent his life from becoming lost in homelessness, he joined the Marines and is now back and actually in school. He attends Columbia University and is also working on a film which he hopes will shed light onto the young, colored LGBTA people living on the streets of New York. I think Elegance's story is truly beautiful and that he has a lot to offer to the world. Please read the whole story because I think it captures the scope of the thing much better than I did!
