Pilot and Passengers Jump to Safety as Skydiving Planes Collide

Over the weekend, two skydiving planes collided in Wisconsin. Investigators are still not sure how the collision occurred, but fortunately, there were no deaths and only two minor injuries. Each plane carried no more than five people; each of them parachuted to safety. The pilot of the leading plane reported that the thing he remembers is a loud crashing sound and seeing the windshield break. The leading plane caught fire and crashed, while the trailing plane barely made it to the runway.
This story was very interesting to me. Plane safety is so serious in these post 9/11 times, and this is proof that even with the most extreme precautions, accidents can still happen. It is also surprising that none of the passengers had extreme injuries. After seeing pictures of the planes after the crash, I cannot believe that everyone came out safely. That shows how prepared skydivers truly are. People look down on them because they spend their lives voluntarily doing an activity that is extremely dangerous, but this situation proves that they are ready for just about anything.
I was also shocked to read that the trailing plane did not have collision insurance. That shouldn't be an option. Collisions don't happen all the time, but when they do, they are extreme. And it it important to always prepare for the worst. Reporters said that the divers of the second plane will be out of practice for at least a few weeks.

  1. It's nice to hear that there were no deaths, however the mystery of why the planes collided is one that warrants investigation, hopefully they can figure it out.
