Summary: 68 year old John Wise of Massillon, Ohio is being charged with aggravated murder after fatally shooting his wife of 45 years, Barbara Wise in her neuroscience ICU room at Akron General Medical Center on Aug. 4, 2012. He is expected to put forward an insanity defense as his lawyer says Wise "did it out of love" but "wasn't thinking rationally when he did it." A friend of the couple says he believed they made a pact to not allow each other to suffer in the event of either of them having a serious medical emergency.
Analysis: I sincerely sympathize with Wise. He'd been with his wife for over 40 decades and to see her left physically incapable of speaking after suffering triple cerebral aneurysms would be too unbearable for anyone to watch. I hope he doesn't get life in prison as he was just doing what he believed to right: relieving his soul mate of all pain.

So I can only imagine the pain that he felt toward his wife's pain but I still firmly believe that it is no ones personal job to take someone else's live. I don't wish anything upon this man but I still don't believe that e should have taken his wife's life.
ReplyDeleteI sympathize with both sides of this issue. On the one hand, his wife was in pain, but on the other the law should be upheld. Furthermore if the man had mental health problems, then that just adds to the tragedy.
ReplyDeletei understand not wanting to have your loved one suffer through pain or sickness, but in order to put them out of their misery, was shooting his wife necessary? (obviously not) but does the man feel guilty for shooting HIS WIFE? even if that is what she wanted, i would have so much guilt and depression racked up from it. wow. this is so sad for a man who loves his wife so much he killed her
ReplyDeleteThis man has an extremely strong case. Killing his wife so he wouldn't suffer is a strong temporary insanity case. I do not believe it is anyone's right to take another's life, but think of how many people would suffer in agonizing pain or live life as a vegetable if others did not release them. It's an extremely tearing situation.
