Grandmother Hit While Saving Grandson - Victoria Lennox 2nd Period

Cleburne grandmother, Terri Shelby, is now in critical condition after being hit by a car on Halloween. Shelby’s family said she was out with her 3-year-old grandson and his mother. They had been participating in Halloween festivities at the Nolan River Mall. As Shelby and her family were walking back to their car, witnesses, calling her a hero, say she pushed her grandson out of the way of an oncoming car and was hit with major impact. Police say the driver responsible stopped to help but only because a group of church members forced her to. Terri Shelby is now in critical condition. Her grandson and his mothers are also hospitalized but only with minor injuries. This accident happened on a five-lane road that is not well lit and because of this, police are treating the case as a mere accident. Charges against the driver are not likely.

This story is very sad. It seems like there have been a lot of car incidents like this lately. I hope this speaks to all drivers to be very cautious when driving anywhere that may possibly have pedestrians. Even though the street was not well lit, every car has headlights that provide sufficient light to see human beings walking in the street. It’s good to hear that the family survived but sad to hear that the grandmother is in critical condition. It’s touching that she risked her life to save her grandson who most likely would have died had it not been for his grandmothers actions. This family and the grandmother are definitely in my prayers.

The grandmother is definitely a hero for saving the child. However, I must ask why they were walking in the street, instead on the more safer option, sidewalk? Knowing full well that the road was improperly lit, the pedestrians should have especially not been walking in the street, lest to cross. I hope the woman gets well and that from now on, the family take extra precautions while walking in public.
