"Dying Teen Covers Katy Perry's 'Roar' " - Camille Farrar

Written by Sara Ganim and AnneClaire Stapleton, this article showcases the past few months of 16-year-old Olivia Wise. The teen was on vacation in Florida this past January when she had a seizure and was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. The tumor is inoperable and she is living her last days. When she was healthy, Olivia sang for her friends and family all the time. In September, she was offered a chance to do a recording in order to have her voice live on past her. She accepted and sang Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’. The video is beautiful and, upon seeing it, Katy Perry recorded a video response telling her so. The cover and the Liv Wise Fund set up in Wise’s name will help her memory to live on.
This article was extremely touching. It is awful to know that Wise is living her last days, but it is amazing to know that she was able to record her last song. I believe this song will touch many people, and hopefully cause donations to be made so that medical progression can occur. On news sites, the home page inevitably advertises an article that is terribly sad. Although this article may not have been happy, strictly speaking, but it is nice to see that people do things such as offer their recording studios for others’ use. It is impossible for all news to be positive because there are negative events in the world, but it is important to remember the silver linings in stories.

  2. this is a great article. Although the meaning is sad, the story behind it and what is happening because of it is happy. It is good to know that not only will her voice live on, but famous people like Katy Perry are aware of this and are kind enough to respond

  3. That is so sweet that Katy Perry responded to her. I bet it touched Katy and Olivia's hearts. I knew a young girl that was in love with Justin Bieber and she got into a horrible car accident and was in a coma for the longest time and someone told one of Justin's people about it and he sent a video to her saying that he hopes she gets well soon. The girl was so excited, I can only imagine how Olivia felt when Katy did that for her.
