A fire started at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but it appeared to have begun in the interior network of wooden beams. The cathedral is visited by around 13 million people a year. On the evening of April 15th, the last rush of tourists were trying to get in before the day ended and the doors were abruptly shut without explanation. Within moments tiny bits of white smoke started to rise from the spire, which was the highest part of the cathedral. The smoke started to turn gray, then it became black. This made it clear that there was a fire growing inside of the cathedral. Soon orange flames were coming out of the spire and it quickly grew with intensity. It took around 500 firefighters to battle the blaze for about 5 hours. Two thirds of the roof was destroyed, but everything else was preserved and saved. Nobody was killed, but a firefighter was seriously injured.
I think it was crazy how this could've just happened out of no where, when this place has been functioning well for many many years. I'm hoping that there can be a clear explanation as to how this fire started and I'm excited to see how quickly renovations will be made, and what can be done to make sure it doesn't happen again.
I think it’s crazy that this just happened without an explanation to it, hopefully it could/will be explained~ Stephannie Hernandez
