As of today, the Supreme Court announced that it would decide if the Civil Rights Act of 1964 includes protections for LGBTQ+ people on the basis of discrimination of sex. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has said that the act does include protections; however, Trump's administration is in opposition of the claim, saying that discrimination of sex "cannot be fairly read" based on sexuality and gender identity. One case that has challenged the idea that Title VII of the act does include protections of discrimination based on sexuality is Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda. Donald Zarda, a skydiving instructor, was fired for being gay, and sued under Title VII. Unfortunately, Zarda died in 2014 due to a skydiving accident. After his estate pursued his case, Chief Judge Robert A. Katzmann claimed that "sexual orientation discrimination is motivated, at least in part, by sex and is thus a subset of sex discrimination."
I think that there should be protections for LGBTQ+ people included in this act on discrimination of sexual and gender identity. Workplaces shouldn't be allowed to fire employees just because of how they identify. If workplaces believe they can fire employees based on their identity, there will be more LGBTQ+ unable to find work and become homeless. There is still work to be done for the LGBTQ+ community.

Throughout history it's has been so difficult for people to realize that a group of people are in fact people and deserve rights and respect and it's absolutely ridiculous to leave these people unprotected
