Judge Nap: Supreme Court ruling on provocative brand name will push "the First Amendment to its limits"- Yesenia Ramirez Monroy

Recently the owner of a company known as Erik Brunetti said that his First Amendment rights where being taken away and decided to take this to coart. This was due to the issue dealing with his brand name "Friends You Can't Trust" because some people might find it offensive and it's not a proper name. This was the reason of why the United States Patent and Trademark Office denied the trademark in 2014 . Also the U.S. position is that it doesn't restrict speech, but declines to promote it. Brunetti’s lawyer said to the Supreme Court on Monday  and challenge a federal trademarking law calling them that it was “scandalous” or “immoral.”

This article was published by Talia Kaplan on April 16,2016 with the purpose of informing local citizens of this incident. The main issue behind this was that a citizen felt that his rights were being violated by the government. Although, this may not sound good we all know that all rights that we are given can only go so far. This means that they have restrictions, so people can't just do whatever they want because it could lead to chaos. This 1st amendment ,"Bill of Rights" goes all the way back to congress when it was passed on December 15, 1791. This amendment was created thanks to the idea of Thomas Jefferson and his concern over the citizens diverse cultures and mind. This was established to create respect toward one another, but also to limit the government when wanting to take power over the citizens and limiting their freedoms.
