Dame Cathedral in Paris, burned on Monday and threatened a world known symbol of Catholicism at the start of Holy Week. The fire burned for several hours, destroying the 850 year old cathedral's spire and roof before firefighters were able to contain the crazy fire early Tuesday morning. People immediately started asking what the future looks like for the church that was said to embody the heart of Paris for 850 years. But their President pledged to rebuild, starting with the launch of an international fundraising campaign. For much of the afternoon, flames and plumes of smoke rose from the cathedral as firefighters in cranes sprayed water onto the structure. It took almost a whole day to contain the fire. The cathedral is one of Paris' most popular attractions, drawing an estimated 13 million visitors a year. This tragic event is as of now said to have been started by a construction fire, while they were remodeling.

This fire is so catastrophic to Paris, and makes me think of the California fires that took place over a few months. While these fires differ because one is an over 800 year old building and the other is across multiple towns, the results of both fires left cities in devastation and loss. Fires and natural disasters like this can cause towns to change forever. Taking down a historic building with so much significance will go down in history and this event will be remembered for a long time.
It sucks that all of the art and hard work put into Notre Dame is now destroyed and can not be viewed to see the roots of history. Do think this there will be more renovations to fix it? - Paige McManaman
ReplyDeleteThis is such a tragedy. I heard that they believe a worker left a cigarette causing the fire because the fire started 5 mins after workers left. I don’t know if this is true tho
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that this happened on the beginning of holy week. I hope there was still art kept safe from the fire.
