Cathy Huynh - Trump pushed to close El Paso border, told admin officials to resume family separations and agents not to admit migrants

Summary: The president has been pushing to reinstate broader family separation policies and close the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso, as his conflict with Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen intensified. 2 Thursdays ago, in a meeting at the Oval Office with top officials, the President, according to 1 attendee, was "ranting and raving, saying border security was his issue." Officials say that Trump then ordered Nielson and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to shut down the port of El Paso the next day. Nielsen told Trump that would be a bad and even dangerous idea. She proposed an alternative plan that would slow down entries at legal ports. Ultimately, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney seemed to have been able to talk the President out of closing the port of El Paso. However, Trump was insistent on taking another action--denying asylum seekers entry.

Analysis: This article was posted today and by Jake Topper. The immigration issue has been a popular topic to debate about ever since Trump got inaugurated. Something similar that has happened in the past is the Japanese internment camps, distrust of other races led to both. This is supposed to anger people at Trump's hot headed decisions. This article was written, because the closing of the ports could've happened and could've been very detrimental to legal migrants.

  1. Trump has been so absolutely reckless in pursuing this anti-immigration agenda. It seems he has no clue about the devastation this may cause to our economy, considering how much we import from Mexico.
