Original Article: Fires Destroy 3 Black Churches In Louisiana : NPR
In just 10 days, three black churches in Louisiana suffered destruction from fires. The possibility of arson is not to be ruled out. The state fire marshal is quoted to say, "There is clearly something happening in this community." Additionally, a predominantly white Pentecostal church was intentionally set fire to on March 31, in another town.
Because the three fires occurred in such a small window of time, people understandably suspect it could be a racist attack. If that is true, it similar to what happened in 1963 with the bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church that killed four young girls.
It is already sad and disappointing that these churches would be burned down but to find out that these were probably racist attacks is even more disgusting.
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad that our society still has racist attacks 50 years after the civil rights movement.
ReplyDeleteI never like reading about churches being burned down. Churches are so important to many people and the religious believes, so seeing that these very spiritual buildings are taking to the ground, and my opinion, is very disrespectful to their faiths and practices. - Joziah German
