Emma Burkey- The Women's March was a party with a purpose

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/20/opinions/womens-march-party-with-purpose-donnelly/index.html

This CNN article is an opinion piece written by Liza Donnelly about this year's women's marches that took place this weekend. I understand that this article is based on her opinion, but her remarks about the motives and attitudes of the marchers are similar to the ones I found last year at the marches in Dallas. Regardless of her opinion, the cartoons that Donnelly illustrated of the marches tell the story of the people there and how the movement is still going strong.

There is no denying that this year's marches were significantly smaller than the ones from three years ago, but that being said they probably never will be the size they were again, (unless Trump is re-elected, God forbid.) The very fact that the marches are still being organized around the country is uplifting to all the women and men that stand behind the movement. I think that it is important that people who may be on the other side of the beliefs of the marchers see that they are not going away, and according to Donnelly, their signs are far more in your face and demanding rather than funny than they have been in the past. Women are still fighting for the respect that they deserved, (at a march Donnelly attended the marchers were singing and dancing to the song "Respect".) Just as the women of the Gilded Age and into the 20's fought for their right to vote, present women, (and the men who stand with them), are fighting for equal pay, treatment and overall equality. One day we will get to a world where everyone is on an equal field, but until then, we women won't lay down our cause because we fight like girls.

  2. Throughout history, women have had to fight for rights equal to those of men. I am proud of the women who came before us, paving the way. It’s so uplifting to see women of today continuing what early women started.
