Today 400 guns were stolen from a shipping facility in Tennessee. A truck with two employees stole them and are yet to be found. The officials have put everyone on watch including the public. They are offering rewards for any and all information. Memphis, just like most other metropolitan areas, has an issue with violent crimes, so with this many guns on the loose the public's safety may be in grave danger. The theft is taking more time to investigate because a shipping area doesn't have a set stock of merchandise like a store might.
Better background checks people. I don't know very many specifics about the case, but I feel like more thorough background checks might have helped to prevent this unfortunate turn of events. Even if the circumstances wouldn't have changed for this case, there are so many like it that would have. With the violent society that we live in, it is imperative that we take every precaution in securing our safety. Sometimes good enough is all we need to be satisfied, but we must learn to increase our standards if we wish to help cure our world of some of the violence presents itself. My stance on this article is similar to the first one I wrote. I am not anti-guns but I am anti-ignorance and pro-safety. We need to take more care in our gun system because we need to be able to protect ourselves. But we also need to find a way to lessen gun violence, because, without something to fear, we have no need to protect ourselves. I understand that this is an unrealistic dream, but it is not something that we can't strive for. Luckily the writer was all facts in their writing and didn't try to sway the audience (anyone and everyone anywhere near involved in current events) towards any firepower control opinions. This article, along with literally any other article about anything having to do with guns can be related to the second amendment and how our constitution must be altered and interpreted to fit our society today. The 21st century is much different than the world has been in the past and we must be able to account for that.
Emma Burkey: I totally agree with what you said about how this relates to gun laws and the lack there of, and the fact we need the public to be safe. This article is important for bringing up those issues, but also for bringing us to the attention that the people of Tennessee could be in very big danger due to this crime.
ReplyDeleteChloe Meinershagen: I don't understand why we don't have better back ground checks. Does no one find it interesting that you can legally buy a gun before you're allowed to drink? Or that so many people in our country are dying? What is the point of even having guns other than harm at this point?
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything, in my opinion I think its terrible that are guns are used for violence when their suppouse to be used to protect citizens in serious situations.
