Fiona Graybill: Kellyanne Conway Says She Was a Victim of Sexual Assault

Following the hearing regarding the statement of Christine Blasey Ford that supreme court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in their teens, Kellyanne Conway revealed in an interview that she is a victim of sexual assault. Conway goes further into detail and suggests through the use of “every time…” that she has been sexually assaulted more than once. Calling Dr. Blasey “compelling” and “credible” Conway also brings up the notion that perhaps Blasey Ford was misremembering who sexually assaulted her in 1982.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women and one in 71 men will be raped within their lifetime. Though not any more significant, the rape or sexual assault of women is much more frequent than that of men. The statement made by Conway is yet another example of the all too common sexual assault against women, something in which the numbers are terrifyingly high. Given the statistics, it is hard to believe that these claims made by the victims of sexual assault aren’t valid. Though sexual violence has decreased by 50 percent in the past 20 years, the numbers are still too high and we need to start believing and standing with the victims before any work can be done to fix the problem at hand.

I believe Ford and I believe Conway to some extent. What makes me question Conway is her suggestion that Ford is wrong about who assaulted her. It seems like something you wouldn’t forget unless you were drugged.

  2. I believe that even though what Ford may or may not be saying is true Kavanaugh should be asked or "told" to step down. Even if it isn't true they should have him step down until they cleared the situation up.

  3. I believe it is an interesting revelation about Conway to hear that she was sexually assaulted previously. I think it gives her more of a position of believing and empathizing with Ford. However, if her experiences with sexual assault can help her see Ford’s side, how come it can’t let her see the perspectives of the various women who claim to have been sexually assaulted by president Trump.

  4. I believe Conway is a survivor of sexual assault and to a point empathizes with Ford, but I think her job prevents her from fully articulating her true position. Her views and statements have to be aligned with Trump's.
