Chloe Meinershagen - Repairing Sex Trafficking Victim's Lives

https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/27/us/cnnheroes-susan-munsey-generatehope/index.html

This article is about Susan Munsey, a sex trafficking victim who now, in later years past, is working to physically and psychologically heal women through a camp, Generate Hope, where people can stay for up to two years catching up on High school or prepare for college, expressing themselves in dance and art, and go through therapy with and without others for help. The article then uses answers Susan Munsey gave to a few questions regarding sex trafficking and what and who to look out for.

Allie Torgan, the writer, is actually quite impressive. She's produced films and shows, won a Peabody Award, and writes articles on CNN usually about "CNN Heros", which includes this article about Susan Munsey. My prior knowledge to the topic of sex trafficking is all the minimal gruesome facts about what happens and how awful the conditions are for the women and girls. I was surprised and yet surprised to learn that there are few places in America that provide aid to victims. I hadn't really pondered the possibility, and yet I assumed there would be help. Truthfully, the saddest part is that it is mentioned that sex trafficking is a better trade for men to get into than drugs or other crimes because it's a little harder for them to get caught. I can compare this in history as a far stretch to Native Americans. They joined together after being victimized by the colonists during the colonization time period, and once one was terrorized, they would go to their whole group or even branch out to other native tribes and try to group together to rebel.

  1. It is critical that this subject is brought to peoples' awareness, so I'm really glad you posted about this. I barely know anything about this topic, but I can assume that victims experience very high amounts of PTSD and other obstacles that make it hard for them to live normally. I want to show as much support as I can, and I hope others do too. I feel like a lot of people just ignore it and pretend like it doesn't exist, since we don't hear about this issue that much. It makes me happy to know that there are women like Susan Munsey who work incredibly hard to help victims and get them to a better place.

  2. I’m glad you decided to write about this bc I find it very interesting how there aren’t very many places that support women who have dealt with sex trafficking. I also really appreciate Susan Munsey for being so strong and deciding to help out these victims. We need more people like this in the world.
