Today, October 1st, marks exactly 1 year since the shoooting in Las Vegas that took the lives of 58 people and injured around 800 more. Survivors of said shooting have come together for memorials of the loved ones they lost on that tragic day. The trauma of these survivors still takes over their mind whenever they see videos or are reminded of this horrific experience. The videos going around online haunt the recovery process of some of these survivors, which does not allow them to let go of tension in their lives that has built up since that day. Said videos contain extreme graphic images of injured people wailing for help and corpses lying limply on the ground. That day is truly a day that will never be erased from these people's minds and lives.
How many more have to die in the hands of a gunman for poeple to do something about these guns? The argument of the people who support gun ownership say its for "self-defense" or "hunting" , but an AK-47 is not needed to take down deer or to save yourself from a possibly dangerous person. The purpose for these guns is to kill people by the masses, just like what happened in the las Vegas shooting. Not only did this gunman take the lives of 58 people with the pull of a trigger, he also traumatized hundreds more, killing their spirit and inducing fear into their lives. Again "we have 18th century laws on 21st century guns", because a small pistol would not take as many lives in such a short amount of time as an automated rifle. The accessibility to these kinds of arms really has to be more controlled. Its sad that we live in a world that regulates women's bodies more than the arms that kill our children and families.

Emma Burkey: The fact that after a year since this tragic event we have no gun laws or enhanced background checks to show for is sickening. People need to remember that if we don't do something now we are going to continue to have more and more days that we must remember for the lives that were lost to gun violence.
ReplyDeleteThe story is still tragic to this day, it'll be an event that won't be forgotten. Although the gun laws are unfair and is proven to be unfair in this article, a couple that was affected by the shooting had their wedding in Las Vegas, near the shooting, on the 1 year anniversary. So I think something "good' sort of "replaced" the bad.-Jendayi Harris

ReplyDeleteThis article just brings up many thoughts and questions into my head like how you said why would someone need a AK-47 to begin with. Also authorities should take more inconsideration to this issue dealing with guns and have more security in places and social events to prevent something like this in the future.- Yesenia Ramirez
