Violet Wiedemer- Hurricane Florence hits South Carolina

This weekend, Hurricane Florence touched down in North Carolina, destroying everything in its path. Currently, the hurricane is battering North and South Carolina. Six people have been reported dead as the hurricane continues to batter the East coast with rain.

Several places in South Carolina who have just recovered, or are still in the process of dealing with the after effects of Hurricane Matthew in 2016 are now having all of their work destroyed again as the flood waters continue to rise and winds batter the country.

This is reminiscent of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which set the development of the Gulf coast, from Florida to Eastern Texas, back by several years. In the past several years, hurricanes have absolutely battered the country and will likely continue to due so. Due to the change in climate, it's likely that only more and more of these hurricanes will hit the area.

  1. I think it is awful that another hurricane has struck our country. It is heartbreaking that our country has to go through another hurricane just after Hurricane Harvey last year in Houston, and how they are still recovering from it. I hope the hurricane begins to pass soon and the Carolinas are able to recover quickly. -gracie zytynski

  2. I agree with you. While hurricanes are a natural part of our environment, studies have shown that global warming causes stronger hurricanes. That doesn't necessarily mean more hurricanes but just more intense. We really need to be aware that what we do has an impact on the Earth, and we need to take care of it! Lily Philips
