“Trump Criticizes Union Leader on Labor Day: ‘It is easy to see why unions are doing so poorly.’” By: Martina D’Orso

On Labor Day, President Trump blamed Richard Trumka, president of AFL-CIO a union worker association, for saying that he had done more to hurt workers than to help them. These disputes stemmed from the deal Trump has been trying to secure with Mexico to start repairing NAFTA before the 2018 midterm elections. Among many things Trumka criticized, one stood out from the rest. Trumka reprimanded Trump over the Republican tax law that had been passed last fall which he said would boost the outsourcing of American jobs hurting American union workers.

The article was written on September 3rd, 2018 at 10:57 A.M. It was written for the public, the masses, and has a relatively unbiased connotation since it mainly states the back and forth dispute between the two and lists facts over unions at the end. The author is Jeff Stein who before working at the Washington Post worked at Vox where he would write mainly about the Democrats so this may affect the outcome of the article even though it seems like he stayed quite neutral in the article. The article was written to inform the public and to keep them updated on what is going on as it is not extremely vital to most people. It is important because it showcases yet another thing that the President hasn’t helped with. The article relates to US History because ever since the 1800s unions have been negotiating the terms of their wages, daily hours, etc. Unions have given people the right to stand up and protest for what they have wanted and that is what America is all about giving the right to the people, by outsourcing jobs you strip those union workers of their jobs and their right to stand up in what they believe in.
