A gunman opened fire on a Jacksonville video game tournament on August 26th. The gunman was a competitor in the competition and he killed two people and injured ten others before killing himself.
Shootings are becoming more prevalent in the US, and as a result the minor instances are not as widely spread into popular culture. Mass killings have been apparent throughout US history, and similarly many of these acts of violence seem to be senseless and inhumane. Shootings more specifically have been a more recent phenomenon, but they are nonetheless violent. The article was written to inform the community of another shooting. The article has a negative influence on the audience, as it further roots a fear of shootings into the public, but it also showcases the abilities of the police force to secure violent individuals. On the other hand the article also shows that not enough precautions have been taken in prevention of gun violence. The volume of shootings has increased in recent years and detailed articles such as this are used to give horrific detail to traumatic events and to urge a sense of need for gun reform laws.
This is a terrible thing that unfortunately continues to happen around the world. Your analysis was interesting and I agree with everything you said.
ReplyDeleteI also agree the with you the amount of damage that a gun can do should be enough for anyone to agree that guns should be controlled, but for some reason many people cling to the idea that you should have to right to own a gun with virtually no restrictions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement. we here about yet another instance of a shooting and yet people still believe that there isn't a problem. the shooter in this instance bought the gun legally, but like all of the others obviously should not have been able to purchase the gun in the first place.
