12 year old, Delaney Unger, is a cancer patient that had a dream to dance. Delaney had danced almost all of her life, so when she heard the news that she had a mass on her femur, her life was changed forever. The doctors then discovered cancer in Delaneys knees called osteosarcoma. This cancer required chemotherapy and complete amputation of Delaneys left knee. They used her good ankle, leg, calf, and foot to make a new knee for her to use. After 13 long hours of operation on Delaney, the doctors very shocked to see her fast recovery and her drive to get back into dance
I related to this story in many ways because I can understand how hard it must be to have pain while dancing. I have a knee disease called osgood schlatters which is when my growth plate rubs against my tibia causes swelling underneath my knee cap. The pain is constant and will hopefully heal soon. I understand how sad it must be for Delaney to want to dance because i can’t even imagine the struggle and stress she must have had.
It's incredible how she can dance through the pain. Even though I'm not a dancer I wish I had the same determination as her.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really inspiring story, considering that she could go through so much pain and dedication to simply continue her passion. She has been severely handicapped but has found a way to complete her dreams, and that puts me at awe.
ReplyDeleteSuch an inspiring story. I can't imagine the pain she must have gone through during that time.
ReplyDeleteAmazing story! I relate also with the pain aspect of this story. From constantly pushing my body I tend to be in a lot of pain and sorness.

DeleteI agree, and I think most dancers would... but through all the pain there's so much that we take away from it. -Mia Murphy

ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting thing to read about coming from someone who isn't a major in dance. I too wrote about this and i think people should really read about. How would this relate to history?
