Lily McCollum -- Trump Tariffs on China

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/17/us/politics/trump-china-tariffs-trade.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Trump has placed very high tariffs on goods from China. The economy of China is already down, and unemployment is at an all time high. The goal is to make this trade more beneficial for the U. S., but it may end up hurting us in the end. This will only cause more conflict with China and possibly lead to a trade war. The American economy greatly relies on Chinese manufacturing, so this decision is very risky. If China cuts of trade with the U.S., it would be nearly impossible for American manufacturers keep up with the need. This decision will only negatively effect American producers.

The authors have a very clear opinion on the tariff. They do not hold back in stating what they believe on the topic. Many reporters have a very negative opinion of Trump, and it is reflected in the writing. The article was written to inform the readers about the current situation with China.

This situation reminds me of the relationship with England and the United States before the revolution. The more England taxes the Colonies, the closer they got to war. Hopefully the situation with the U. S. and China will not escalate to this level, but history repeats itself. The administration needs to tread lightly with China, because we do not need to start a war.

  1. I wish that we didn't have a president who is so confrontational, this is just another example of that part of him being detrimental.

  2. I like your connection to the situation between England and the colonies before the revolution. Although the situation is not exactly the same, there are enough similarities to see that if this continues to escalate, it could lead to a war. As you said, history does repeat itself
